Mr. Nopadej Karnasuta, President - Thailand, Malaysia and Energy & Industrial Solutions Business, B.Grimm Power, joined the discussion at KT Dialogue New Horizon Chapter 2: Smart Grid, organised by Krungthep Turakij, sharing insights and highlighted the importance of Smart Grid technology in enhancing the stability and efficiency of the power system, while supporting the growth of Thailand’s industrial sector and renewable energy. With more than 30 years of experience in power generation and energy, B.Grimm Power has developed a Smart Grid network spanning more than 220 kilometres, making it one of the largest Smart Grid transmission networks of its kind in the world.

During the discussion, Mr. Nopadej proposed 5 key approaches to advancing Smart Grid systems and renewable energy: Establish a common data platform to enable integrated data management and sharing between the public and private sectors • Enable Third-Party Access to connect industrial demand with renewable energy sources • Develop local energy systems, such as in industrial estates, to enable peer-to-peer electricity trading • Improve regulations and ease regulatory requirements to enable greater flexibility and efficiency in implementation • Remove direct-line restrictions on floating solar to allow electricity to be supplied to multiple customers.

Advancing Smart Grid systems will not only strengthen the stability and efficiency of the power system, but also help reduce system losses and costs. It could generate estimated savings of around THB 28 billion per year for the country, while creating new revenue opportunities through the broader energy ecosystem, including battery energy storage systems and liberalised electricity trading, with potential value of more than THB 10 billion.
