Performance 2023

Investment in the Energy Management System (EMS)

a technological system that complements the Smart Grid (the electric system that operates and responds smartly and effectively), whereby EMS performs real-time tracking of grid actual energy usage and optimises multi-source energy distribution to customers, as well as helps plan the grid expansion in an effective manner, in collaboration with Schneider Electric and Yokogawa Electric Corporation.

Development of the Digital Twins System

a power plant management system that applies to combined cycle co-generation power plants, which represent the main sources of electric power in the Smart Grid through collaboration with leading partners. The objectives are

1) To evaluate the cost-effectiveness and overall efficiency of electricity generation

2) To enable predictive maintenance activities by analysing the data to notify machinery’s health and operating time in advanced and

3) To collect and organise the data on production and operations related to work procedures that require accuracy and effectiveness.

There are 3 major systems; AI Health Monitoring, Continuous Performance Optimisation (CPO), and the Common Plant Information Management System (PI) (for more information please refer to “Operational Excellence and Customer Relationship Management”).

Utilisation of the Advance Distributed Management System (ADMS)

The system is for industrial estate customers to manage multi-sources electricity generation, controlling the electricity transmission and distribution systems, whereby the system serves as a crucial component enabling comprehensive commanding, controlling, and managing data from several energy sources. The system consists of the hardware that collects the data, and the software that connects all systems of the energy sources with communication system (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition Remote Terminal Units: SCADA RTU) together. It is capable of analysing, simulating the situation on the actual system, and forecasting the potential impact. The system also supports energy trading in preparation for the launch of the Third-Party Access (TPA) in the future.

Rooftop Solar Energy Service

Provision by using the Distributed Energy Resource Management System (DERMS) to accommodate customers’ requirements in the installation of rooftop solar PV and manage system reliability for industrial customers.

Presentation of the Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs)

to foster increased demand for renewable energy and reinforce investments in Thailand's energy sector, while also aiming to reduce indirect GHG emissions from energy consumption (Scope 2) for customers. The RECs are derived from major renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, hydro and biomass energy. These certificates meet international standard by the I-Track Foundation (I-REC (E)) and endorsed by the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand, whereby the electricity of 1 MWh is equivalent to 1 REC. In the previous year, the RECs were distributed to our customers in 20 organisations.

Promotion of a Digital-age Corporate Culture through “B.Grimm Pioneering Runway 2023” Programme

an innovation and new business development course held in collaboration with Global Innovation Catalyst (GIC) since 2022, aimed at encouraging the innovation ecosystem in connecting the startups from young generations with the energy industry, by developing human resources from bringing together a group of internal and external participants, including within, business partners, and technology and innovation students from leading universities in Thailand with the interest and technological competency, data management and analysis, and innovation to learn the thought process, working procedures to cope with changes, as well as be enthusiastic in learning new things to develop the solutions, both in terms of business operations skills in the new era, business model design and successful execution. There were 11 projects being proposed for the business initiatives that are strategically connected to B.Grimm Power’s business.

Applied technology to Improve work procedures and organisational management (Digital Transformation), with the following key projects
Development of the Data Hub platform

to connect and gather data from different sources to be available for use in a systematic method, and presented in the forms of report and dashboards, which help reduce data collection procedures from different departments. It also serves as the data management tool for analysis and evaluation, enabling business decision-making in a timely manner both at the operational and managerial levels. In this regard, the execution of the Data Hub and Data Governance or identification of rights, duties, and responsibilities in data management, as well as data classification, data cleansing and data warehouse to ensure the quality of data, security and personal data protection. The pilot project has been executed, covering core departments, for instance, Investor Relations, Transmission and Distribution System Engineering, and Customer Service and Solution. In 2024, the plan is to expand to other departments such as Purchasing, Finance and Power Plant Technical Support, with the objectives of implementing the platform throughout the entire organisation. Moreover, the Data Hub is part of the preparation towards being the data-driven organisation by developing the Big Data platform to drive the organisation in the future.

Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) platform

a platform that helps with planning and managing activities in the organisation in an effective and systematic manner. B.Grimm Power has been using the Oracle EBS together with the cloud system to develop the financial and procurement systems since 2022. The focus in the past year was on data collection and continuous reviews to develop and improve the system to enhance work operations in a more effective manner. Previously, the system was mainly used only in accounting, leading to the connection of the database among accounting, procurement and supplier management, which enhances inter-departmental work effectiveness and reduces administrative expenses. Following the system's deployment, there have been monitoring activities, data collection and consideration on a continuous basis to improve the system for enhanced effectiveness. In 2024, we planned to upgrade the Financial Consolidation and Close System (FCCS).

Improvement and application of the information system for organisational management that covers digital operations, with key projects in 2023 as follows:
Migration of the communication system to the Software-Defined Wide-Area (SD WAN), which has helped reduce cost of the core network system and the secondary system, compared to the previous system where the signal is transmitted via optic fibre.
Migration of the Oracle EBS Disaster Recovery (DR site) that operates in case of disaster to the core system, onto the cloud system (on cloud), which has helped enhance the effectiveness of the work procedures and decrease maintenance expenses compared to the original version where the data is stored on-site.
The shift to the 4G technology for connection purposes within solar power plants, from the previous one where data is transmitted via optic fibre that involves high maintenance costs.
